♔In the Bleak Midwinter- Christina Rossetti

Fox in the snow

In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone,
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter,
Long ago.

In the Bleak Midwinter” is a Christmas Carol based on a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti. (1872)

The poem first appeared set to music in ‘The English Hymnal’, (a hymn book which was published in 1906 for the Church of England), with a setting by Gustav Holst.
